Day 1. At Sea

So after we recovered from yesterday’s excitement today is an at sea day. We attempted to explore what was available to do a see.   We are in the process of heading south. Nothing to see but ocean. Met some fun people at lunch including a woman from Laguna Niguel.  We spent the time comparing Viking cruises to Oceania

We attended 2 lectures on Antarctica. I hoped to learn more about the South Pole but one lecture focused on photography and things to look for and the afternoon lecture focused on marine mammals. Interesting but identification of types of seals, penguins, whales and dolphins really wasn’t what I hoped to learn

Tonight there is a captains welcome reception so free alcohol in several of the lounges.  Not just limited to wine and champagne. We have reservations at the specialty restaurant tonight. It will be Italian.  Of course we dressed for dinner. Dan had on his coat and tie even. He basically stated the last time he wore a tie was 4 years ago for Brian’s wedding.

Carrying my 1/2 glass of wine to dinner we check in at the restaurant to find out. I didn’t confirm our booking and the reservation is for tomorrow night. Oceania service comes to the rescue and we are seated and served. A preview for tomorrow.

The food was excellent portions are large. Different options available. I will include a photo of the menu in a later post. After dinner entertainment was a tango show. This was great the dancers good and they spent time explaining how “the tango” came to be as background information during the show. Of course for those who love to sit up front an opportunity for participation. No worries about that for us.
